About UK Info Citizen
infocitizen-gov.org.uk is an independent project created to make it simpler for people in the UK to reach the public services they need. We believe every citizen and resident deserves clear, accessible information.
Our mission
Dealing with public services in the UK can be confusing. Information is spread across many websites, rules change between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and it is harder still for people who have just arrived, older people or anyone whose first language is not English.
Our mission is to bring the essentials together in one place: plain explanations, step by step guides and direct links to the official websites where each procedure is done, in 8 languages.
What we do
We publish guides to more than 110 everyday procedures: certificates, visas and immigration, tax, benefits, health, housing, driving, schools, voting, business and legal matters. Each guide explains what the procedure is, what you need, the steps to follow, common mistakes and where to do it officially.
We also keep a directory of the public bodies behind each procedure, with their official contact details, and of the 382 local councils in the UK, with direct links to their most used services.
Why you can rely on it
- Plain language: we turn long official instructions into short steps and clear lists.
- Official links only: every procedure links to the official website, and our system rejects any link that is not from an official domain.
- The right nation: every guide says whether it applies to England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland and links the right version for each.
- Checked every week: we test all official links automatically and fix them when government websites change their addresses.
How we prepare each guide
- We start from the official page and the body responsible for the procedure.
- We rewrite the process in our own plain words and keep the official names, so you can recognise them on the official website.
- We point out the documents people often forget and the most common mistakes.
- We review the guide when the official source changes or when a reader tells us something is out of date.
Important
UK Info Citizen is not affiliated with, endorsed by or part of the UK Government, the NHS or any public body. We do not process applications and we never ask for payments for official procedures. The information is general and may change: the official website linked in each guide always has the final word.
Commercial relationships
Certificate Assist, a paid assistance service for UK certificates, is linked to the people behind UK Info Citizen. Where we list it, it appears below the official links, as a private service that you do not need to use, and with that link stated.
Licence
Our summaries and guides are our own work. Contact details of public bodies and council links that come from GOV.UK are reused under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
