Who handles it

Step by step

  1. Check if you have won a prize on the eligible prestigious prize list. If so, you can apply for the visa directly.
  2. If not, apply for an endorsement from an organisation approved by the Home Office in your field.
  3. Once endorsed, apply for the visa online within 3 months of your endorsement letter.
  4. Prove your identity as instructed and pay the fee and the healthcare surcharge.

What you need

  • A valid passport or travel document.
  • Your endorsement letter, unless you are applying as a prize winner.
  • TB test results if you are from a listed country.
  • Written permission from the sponsor if you had a UK study award or scholarship in the last year.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the endorsement go stale: you must apply for the visa within 3 months of the endorsement letter.
  • Assuming any prize counts: only prizes named on the official list qualify.
