Step by step

  1. Go to the HM Land Registry search service and sign in or create an account.
  2. Search for the property by address.
  3. Get the free property summary, or download the title register (owner, price, mortgage) and the title plan (boundaries).
  4. If you need proof of ownership, for example for a court case, order an official copy by post.

What you need

  • The property's address.
  • A debit or credit card if you want to download documents.

Common mistakes

  • Using a downloaded copy as proof of ownership. Only an official copy works as proof.
  • Searching the England and Wales service for a property in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
